This is the light novel adaptation of the first volume of Bleach

Ichigo Kurosaki has had the ability to see the souls of the dead since he was very young. One night, his daily life as a high school student is turned upside down by the appearance of a Hollow wanting to devour the souls of Ichigo's family, and a Shinigami. Failing to protect them, the Shinigami, seriously wounded, lends her powers to Ichigo so that he can save his family. Following this, Ichigo must replace the Shinigami, Rukia Kuchiki, in her task of caring for the Hollows and protecting human souls.
