About Me Hey whats up. I really like Aqours. Visit my stupid blog where I write about fun nerdy stuff including anime https://aobubs.substack.com Simple explanation of ratings 10: I almost never give 10s so when I do its for something I consider incredibly special. 9: I REALLY love this 8: I love this 7: I like this Its good 6: I like this but I find the negatives a bit harder to ignore 5: Its not bad but its not exactly good either 4: There may be a few good things about it but overall I dont like it 3: I really dont like this Good aspects are drowned out by the bad. 2: Tbh If something seems worse than a 3 I probably dropped it too quickly for me to feel like I can even give it a score 1: really hate it idk Alternatively in rare cases its more like: I DONT like this story personally but its not terrible and the art is too good for me to give less than a 6. But then sometimes its like I honestly am super invested in this story... but in another way its pretty stupid So...6 I guess? But hold on wasnt I supposed to keep this simple? Ok here are more thoughts on ratings just because Im always tempted to overexplain this stuff. Now even though I am writing this big speech here I want to be clear that I dont think my opinion actually matters at all. I think the reason I ended up writing this is simply that I find the concept of rating works of art on a numbered scale interesting. In general theres a balance of positive and negative feelings I have for a work which determines where it lands. The scores arent meant to be like your teacher grading your homework based on a rubric. Theres no hard math involved. A 10 out of 10 is not given for the absence of flaws but rather for remarkable achievements. I could sit in my house all day doing nothing and say I didnt make any mistakes today so I get a perfect score but guess what I didnt actually accomplish anything. This is why I never consider scoring to be a matter of deducting from 10. If anything a work starts at 0 and gets points added for what it does. The highest honors are for works which do something special. A work that really connects with me despite having what some might consider glaring flaws will get a higher evaluation from me compared to a work that avoids such flaws yet is only decently entertaining. Sometimes there will be a series that has something really special going on but then it does something later that makes me think Well I really hated that. How does that affect my overall opinion of the work? It depends I bring this up to explain that sometimes a 7 is a 7 because what it does is good but not exceptional and other timesless oftena 7 is a 7 because it does something amazing but also does something I hate and perhaps with only the good parts it would easily be an 8 or 9. In conclusion to expect numbers assigned to works of art to be scientific or even fair is futile. But these ratings are still kind of fun soooo I will keep doing them
