I have to say Tonikaku Kawaii was such a breath of fresh air and muchneeded after many romance for a while missing the mark. I didnt intend to give it a shot as it felt like a simple RomCom that might not even have those necessary ingredients I relish for. But I was proven entirely wrong when I gave it a chance and came out with such a satisfied and big fat grin. Tonikaku Kawaii was a blast from start to finish. Its the kind of anime you kick back and watch after a long day of responsibilities and stress eating away at your life. It got none of that drama nonsense teasing but never progressing the relationship and bunch of waste of space side cast. I adored everything about TK from the side cast that added to the entertainment and value to our couple Yuzaki Nasa and Tsukasa to its simple but effective comedy. I laughed felt warm and fuzzy inside and had a good time without feeling frustrated or annoyed. Its just got the right amount of dash for awkward sweet and wholesome without coming off as excessive.
Yes I absolutely adored the couple which got so much chemistry and the relationships flow felt natural. By a stroke of an interesting twist they found themselves married and youd think the story ends here. But no. We get to see this lovely couple grow even closer as the day passes and they overcome everyday hurdles together. Tsukasa at first glance felt like such a perfect and calm and collected female which mightve ended up being a doubleedged sword if that was really the case. Thankfully she is a flawed cinnamon roll with lots of flavor and personality. At the same time Yuzaki Nasa is such a refreshing and wellwritten male lead. You dont see those as much nowadays in romance shows. I genuinely like him and find him enjoyable. He is not one to beat around the bush and makes sure to be the man and move their relationship forward. But he got the means to be embarrassed and read the mood when the situation arises. Well at least sometimes. He doesnt feel very onedimensional to me nor does Tsukasa as both add depth to each other by just interacting and being lovable. Unlike many other romances it doesnt take the couple till the last episode to share affections with each other or even smooch.
Originally I found some of the side cast annoying but I quickly grew fond of them as we went on. My favorite has to be the Kouhai Kaname who is tons of fun when onscreen and never ceases to amuse me. Her teasing Nasa with her boldness is one of the things that gives me life. She is so cute and got this touch of maturity I adore. Kaname also plays the role of wingwoman helping Nasa and Tsukasa to make sure their love ride goes as smoothly as possible. She is definitely the most important out of the side cast but I like Tsukasas little sister Chitose as well. For one she a tsundere so thats an instant win for me. There are no real issues with TK for an anime of this nature. It just felt right. I can see some disliking the cute and simple artstyle but for me I think it complements the mood of TK all too well and is quite effective to boot. A wonderful surprise with TK was that the OP is such an upbeat bopper while the ED is soothing and a beautiful way to end the episode.
If youre bored or feel even a little bit down in the dumps I simply cannot recommend Tonikaku Kawaii enough as it will surely put a smile on your face and make you feel better. Its one of the best romances to come out in recent times. Dont expect any complicated story but there is definitely some tasteful and pleasing development between Tsukasa and Nasa. Honestly I cannot see many disliking TK unless they are trying too hard or just being a hater for the hell of it. I want to note I felt that there is foreshadowing about certain events surrounding Tsukasa which I find intriguing. We might see it in play in the sequel. I hope we wont have to wait too long for that. It feels like a simple romance story but you can tell some secrets hidden in plain sight. But overall I am genuinely happy its going to get an OVA as it totally deserves it. But hopefully season two follows soon afterward. You should definitely not miss out on this sweet and adorable RomCom either.
