I should say that I wasnt the biggest fan of the first season of goblin slayer side note I have not read the light novel so I cant review how well they adapted the source material sorry about that. It always felt like they were trying to do too many things. The had ultra dark things mainly in the first episode but then tried to make other episodes more happy/ slice of life and that didnt personally work too well with me. BUT I did enjoy the first season. The movie tries to do a similar thing keeping the same quirky cast and filled with goblin gore. The beginning is pretty much a recap till about the 25 min mark and likely not worth watching if you saw the first season even remotely recently. So the beginning isnt too strong and without getting too spoilery the ending wasnt very strong either coming short for the same reasons the tv show did. The characters are pretty much the same as the tv show. Featuring the dwarf elf priestess lizard shaman and of course the Goblin Slayer but with a new swordswomen I honestly cant even remember if she had a name or not or was just the noble women who became an adventurer not even MAL or this site has her on the character rooster which is somewhat weird since she is definitely a main character of the movie. Honestly I kinda dig the a lot of the characters the dwarf is pretty amusing the lizard dude is pretty cool in combat and likes cheese and of course goblin slayer is pretty rad as well. It also seems like the Goblin Slayer is as little dumber than his television counterpart but not to the extent that it ruins the film. some of his strategies were eye roll worthy but still fun The story is unfortunately the big weak point of the episode. Many other episodes in the first season are better thought out than this one is. If you are anything like me the main reason you kept watch the first season was because of the cool inventive ways of killing goblins/ other monsters. It was awesome when Goblin Slayer busted out the scroll and carved up the ogre. It was bada when he used flour to blow the beholder to kingdom come. It had its wacky moments like goblins are coming from the MOON but that was all fine since those other cool moments made up for that. The movie has the weird story and some of the cool moments but the cool moments dont come very close to the highlights of the first season. I dont want to be too harsh on the movie because I did enjoy it but the story was not there it felt like it would belong in one of my role playing game sessions not in a feature length film. One of my other favorite parts of the original series was the stakes. It always felt like do or die where a single wrong move could mean your earlier demise. For me that feeling was completely removed no mistake ever felt like it was punished at least for olgoblin slayers party. There was one moment in particular this next part might be a bit spoilery for some but Im trying to keep this review free of spoilers where the goblin slayer seems like he might be actual injured but everyone in the party is like / hes fine I mean hes the gob slayR totally robbing any tension from the scene this didnt even make sense to me since how often he almost died in the first season youd think they would be at least a little worried. What all this boils down to is that if you liked the show youll like the movie or at the very least watching it wouldnt be a waste of your time. It isnt very long especially if you skip the recap so there isnt much to lose. Story: 4 Art: 7 Sound: 7 Characters: 8 Enjoyment: 6 Overall: 6.3
