Im a Noble on the Brink of Ruin So I Might as Well Try Mastering Magic is can you believe it? an isekai based on a light novel it follows our main character Liam as hes reborn as the youngest son of a noble in a fantasy world. This could describe any number of isekai but this is one of only 2 isekai from the winter 2025 season where the gimmick is that the MC is obsessed with magic. He goes from an unassuming spare son to an overpowered master of magic with a harem and his own nation over the course of this season and with a show this unoriginal you could likely change a few words of this review and have it apply to a dozen other shows from recent years. Story: 9/20 Theres not all that much to say about the story of this show forgettable MC gets reincarnated has an obsession with magic gets Overpowered and proceeds to live out every shutins wet dream. Harem? Check. Overwhelming power? Check. Founding a nation? Check. The score is the best description for this: 9/20. 45 just below average. There is a single word that people attribute to this show: forgettable. The story is just a step by step he does this and then this and also then he does this with no actual driving force behind it no greater narrative purpose than to get Liam from the start of the story to the harem power the money the selfinsert goal. PV: 10/20 I wouldnt even go so far as to say the production value of this show was anything other than average it wasnt bad it wasnt good it was just bland. The music was so forgettable that I already cant remember the opening song and I listened to it 12 times these past 3 months. The character designs themselves were slightly better than average but the animation did the art style no favours dragging it right back down to the level of every other loweffort isekai we see season after season. Characters: 10/20 Liam himself is just massproduced selfinsert 12554 with no personality beyond liking magic and being a vaguely decent person this unfortunately drags down the rest of the cast. Scarlett Chris Flora Radon Asuna and any other character connected to Liam have no chance to actually be characters because the story demands that they revolve their interests personalities and overall reason for being around Liam with him being so boring that unfortunately puts all other characters in the show in a position where they cant actually be characters in their own right. Enjoyment: 5/10 As Im sure you can guess from everything above here Im not the biggest fan of this show that said I wouldnt go so far as to call it bad its not special its not unique and its not interesting what it is however is a generic isekai its noise something Id happily have on in the background while looking through my phone. Success: 13/30 This is a show that goes for the loweffort passionless route to making money. In a sense you could say its deserving of a 30/30 here as it certainly nailed the passionless part. With that said its so low down because even an isekai that most people would dismiss at first glance can be good even the bad ones tend to have some standout feature but this show is so unremarkable that Im actually sitting here struggling to remember parts of it mere hours after completing episode 12. I cant imagine calling a show that forgettable a success. Overall: 47/100 An inoffensive bland power fantasy show the review could honestly be boiled down to that and that alone. I find myself slightly disappointed in this one though it kept seeming like something would happen to shake up the formula but it never did. Something that honestly confused me was Radon the dragon god. How did she come to be trapped by a minor noble house? Why didnt she care that Liam murdered her children when they first met? And finally why did she have to transform into a Loli? If another season ever comes Ill probably watch it but those who dont bother with this show or wouldnt bother with a hypothetical season 2 arent missing out on much.
