Im just going to say this straight away I seriously loved this manga ever since the first chapter. It is very vibrant creative and gives a sense of curiosity and pleasure from the first pages. The story is heavily dependent on the characters which I think truly only works in this sort of slice of life stories but this may be one of the greatest examples of wellmade characters its WONDERFULLY executed on that basis.
THE INCITING INCIDENT 9/10
The inciting incident of this story was jumped straight into you understood the title of the story from the second page and you immediately understood the whole theme and idea behind it. The entire chapter centered around Suzuki trying to admit her feelings towards Tani and it felt at first that this was going to be a long journey of her mustering the courage and theyll get together eventually but rather she drove straight forward and gave the reader what they wanted from the first chapter. I think this was a very well executed inciting incident that showed what the readers were getting into and gives the I want to continue reading what happens next thought.
PACING 7/10
If this story was more a battle shonen type manga the rating on the pacing would be much lower but its not. Id say the story did go by at a pretty natural pace in the first half but eventually it felt like it was trying to pick up the pace towards the ending and I dont really think that was the authors intention possibly just not wanting to excessively overuse the same school life activities already covered. The only thing that really weighs the rating down is towards the ending it definitely couldve and SHOULDVE dragged out a few more chapters but its still fine the way it is.
PLOT TWISTS 8/10
Again this isnt really a groundbreaking story with an unfamiliar world and whatnot so plot twists wont be as crazy as something like One Piece Berserk Bleach Jojos etc. but for what the story IS and the few plot twists and developments we GOT Id say they were pretty good and kept me vigorously interested I mean that literally I read this manga really fast.
ENJOYMENT 10/10
I really enjoyed this story. Wonderful characters. Ive already said everything that would be inserted into this section just need to clarify that I very much so enjoyed and love this manga.
STORY 8/10
As for the story I think it was very interesting how it strayed toward the middle towards 2 other growing relationships ones of polar opposites as the name of the manga suggests. I really like that dynamic really showing the whole Opposites attract thing. Suzuki and Tanis relationship growth was wonderfully written but I wish it was touched more into like DEEPER into it was a little shallow from an outward perspective which is what we mostly got outside of a few chapters. Though Taira plays an exact opposite role to that his entire character is internal conflict which is a very interesting view on the opposites of the story. Yamada and Nishi were just fun and cute to read.
WORLD BUILDING 6/10
This isnt a story that requires heavy world building especially since its already set in a real place but for the most part were not given specifics into it and very few places are really visited. The world is really only shown on dates the characters partake in. This section is really only included since I include it in my ratings of stories.
CLIMAX 9/10
Would I say theres a definitive climax in this story? No not really. Not like theres a major antagonist where the climax is that final battle. The climaxes Id be thinking of here are more the climaxes in the relationships of characters. Tani learning what it means to be in a relationship and showing his internal self to Suzuki openly. Nishi growing more confident through Yamada. Taira FINALLY OH MY GOD being able to accept his past and enjoy life. Its sweet and simple. Wonderful for this story.
CHARACTERS 10/10
Need I say it again? The characters are the strongest writing element going for this story. Every character is extremely unique every character is different think different act different the list goes on and on. Everything that makes up a well written character is put into them and flown high into the sky. Not to mention EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER. IS. RELATABLE. Utterly perfect. Also who is Gapacho.
ARCS 9/10
I dont think theres much to touch on here that I didnt in the story section. But I think the arc structure in its very direct predictable yet unpredictable manner is nice to read and digest. We get separations focusing on love stories and school life and they perfectly correlate with the world of the story.
ENDING 8/10
I still really loved the ending. It was perfect where it ended wasnt stretched into college and the story got across what it wanted the growth and understand of 3 different polar opposite relationships with a beginning middle and end. The ONLY thing Id change is like said before give a little more breathing room in the ending span out a chapter or 2 more so we can really understand the smoother transition the characters will have into their future life. Possibly like a timeskip chapter where they all meet up 5 years from the original final chapter. Thatd be nice.
In short the story is really great easy to understand direct interesting and everything in between. Id highly recommend this if youre into slice of life enjoy manga as a whole want the whole view on the dedication and movement of love lives anything of the sort.
Also just because the rating isnt SUPER high doesnt mean its not a favorite of mine the rating is purely from a writing standpoint of how well written the story is.
Thank you for reading.
