The Feeling of Unrequitted Love
I personally recommend reading the Manga than watching the anime first.
Its got a more descriptive and poignant touch to it. The anime feels like a summarised version. The events just feel like its passing a bit fast. It should have been a slower move to show the intimate scenes yo involve the audience in a better atmosphere. The Manga feels like its happening in the moment and you are in it empathizing with the characters. The episodes advance slowly giving a better experience. For example in the part where Ecchan visits Hanabi for a sleepover the different odd feelings she experiences and the confusion at the moment shes on her bed is so well expressed in the Manga wheras the anime has a 2 minute exposure of it.
Art: The characters are very well described according to their roles. The oneness of Hanabi in front of Mugi and their kisses are just raw. Its not ecchi but still has got the seductive features that make the readers fall in love with it. Akane is shown mostly smiling with her carefree nature except the for the final few episodes when she gets all tangled up in her own tactics. The fade away black ending page design is thoughtful choice when it comes to its symbolism in the Manga. Mugi and Hanabi are in a constant fight with their own feelings and cannot get out. Its slowly consuming them into the darkness.
I throughout the Manga had ups and downs about my views of Hanabi. She seemed confused yet passionate about her love. But she gets so much hurt by Akane that she commits the same rubbish acts as her.
Akane was one great bitch throughout the entire Manga. A man thirsty whore who cares least for others and takes pleasure in others suffering.
Mugi was not so great either. It felt like he was just taking advantage of Hanabi owing to the situation.
Ecchan was the one who got hurt most and yet never gave up until she got tired of Hanabi not reciprocating her love in any way. She had selfless love for a selfish girl. I could not sympathise with he more. She had a sad end.
Narumi is displayed as a kind and goodhearted young man who loves women with long silky hair like his mother hence he fell for Akane Minagawa. He was unexpectedly quite a lame guy but the only one who was not befitting the definition of a scum.
Ending: It was a most unexpected closure. I never expected such a thing could happen throughout the entire Manga. Its baffling to see how both Mugi and Hanabi lose at the end to get their true love. Yet it was a happy ending.
Note that this is a personal review and doesnt intend to impose the fact that the anime is inferior or hurt the feelings of the creators who put a lot of work into it.
