Whenever I go to check out any sort of media I usually make it a habit of mine to watch or view as little promotional material as possible for several reasons. One of which being that a lot of promotional material now such as trailers for movies and what not love to spoil big plot points that will remove all surprise from the actual product itself but the primary reason for me doing this is that I love going into these things completely blind. That way my reaction to whatever these films TV shows games or what have you do will be completely genuine making interacting with these things much more fun then if I were to have seen any sort of promo material or other videos based on it. After all I wouldnt want to go into something knowing everything about it because that would ruin a lot of the fun for me. So I made sure to watch little to nothing about Psychic Wars in the past and I am extremely glad that I did. Before going into this I didnt know anything about this movie or the book that it was based on. The only reason why I know about this at all is that I watched a few Top 10 Worst Anime lists a while back and this one just so happened to be one of the recurring picks that kept popping up time and time again which always made me curious about it. I mean from what they showed it didnt necessarily look that bad looking more generic rather then just straightup awful so I went into this expecting it to be just that: lazy and generic but nothing more. However now that I have watched the film thing I can safely say that this is not generic and lazy for the most part anyway but instead it is one of the greatest cinematic disasters that I have ever seen. Seriously this is SO BAD as it manages to somehow do EVERYTHING wrong with little to no redeeming qualities about it to speak of and yet I was happily enjoying every second of it just because of how awful it truly was. The story is pretty generic one that you have probably seen a million times before in other films and shows like this but the pacing of this story is so rapidfire and doesnt care about anything that it becomes entertaining just from that factor alone the characters are boring and generic none of them having any unique qualities or even any range of emotion that can be seen on their faces making me care for nobody in this entire thing the voice acting is god awful with none of VAs sounding like they gave a shit when doing this once again also lacking any range of emotion and clearly just doing this for the sake of a paycheck the animation is beyond poor where it may look nice on the odd occasion but everything moves so stiffly and poorly that it all just comes apart by the seems the action scenes are whatever with them being clunky and disjointed and not lasting long enough to leave a lasting impact and it ends as abruptly as it begins making me think that the filmmakers cared as little for this film as the rest of us as well. So yeah as you can probably tell this is definitely a terrible film but it is THAT kind of terrible: the kind of terrible that I managed to have a great time with laughing my ass off at some of the worst dialogue pacing and sequences I have ever seen in any film. It confuses me too because whenever I saw those Top 10 lists of the worst anime out there people said that this film was boring and doesnt really go anywhere which I dont see here at all. Yes the things happening in the film are boring but it is presented in such a noncaring way that I dont know how you cant have a good time with this. I guess if I were to give any sort of credit to the film its the fact that it is pretty short only being about 50 minutes long which could explain the rapidfire pacing and a lot of the plot elements being very generic and glossed over but even then thats still a big problem with the film. They probably couldve just waited to get a higher budget to make this film 40 minutes longer so that they could further expand on this story flesh out more of the characters and actually made them all seem like human beings who care about what is going on. Then again though we wouldnt have gotten this disasterpiece out of it so I guess it all worked out wonderfully in the end. Overall despite the fact that it is pretty short this is one of the funniest sobaditsgood movies that I have seen in a long time and I am so glad that I decided to check it out as otherwise I wouldve never got to experience this horribly paced story these lifeless and generic characters this horrendous voice acting and the many other wonderfully awful elements that all together to create this beautiful product at the end of the day. I would recommend this only as a film that you would watch with your friends while drunk as Im sure you would be able to have a great time ripping it apart and even watching it alone like I did can also provide quite a bit of laughs but if you are actually looking for a decent film to watch then dont even bother checking out this one. Trust me it is not worth it. But anyways I am glad to have finally checked this out now after knowing about it for so long. It just kinda makes me sad though that now that I have checked it out I am never gonna experience peak garbage like this ever again......... it is a sad day my friends.
