The summary is obviously an exaggeration but you arent going to get much else out of this review.
Animation was very good and the little CGI they did use was used well and wasnt horribly distracting Im looking at you level 99 villainess.
Thats about where the pros end. Personally I love reborn villainess stories especially because of how they explore character dynamics. My biggest issue with this one was the main character: why does she feel the way she does who is she and what is her goal? Besides the surface level people dying is bad and I want to save my citizens we have no clue as to what actually motivates her. Shes the most perfect overpowered goodytwo shoes that can do no wrong and in that she has barely any personality. Like... shes nice I guess? But what else I cant really tell you.
Now onto my second issue: the other characters. I guess I cant say much about them because again they have surface level motivations and surface level personalities. The brother character Stale like bread? is upset about being taken from his family reasonably so. And then... nothing. He wants to help Pride. Okay thats good and all but he has no other motivations? Theres nothing else he wants to do nothing else that interests him? Its crazy. And then Arthur a normal name finally good god. Hes... better but not by much. At least his personality is likes Pride wants to help Pride and is annoying. Its better than the others He actually has a more fleshed out barely backstory and motivations and his whole character being centered around Pride actually makes a little more sense to me. But that doesnt make it better.
And they fucked up severely with Tiara which again is a stupid ass name. Shes supposed to be the original main character I get that when Pride flipped the evil switch off which Im still a little confused by she completely changed Tiaras origin story and actually gave her a good loving childhood. However we dont see much of her personality either even though the narrative makes it a point to let the audience know she has one Its just wasted potential. After this there arent many characters that are important or impactful. Or I have something to complain about later on and well get there.
About the character relationships there isnt much to see that doesnt revolve around Pride. This means that the characters dont feel like people they feel like plot devices that can talk. Every single character in the show without fail responds to her beck and call out of a place of respect admiration and Id argue idolatry. I mean I can understand why from their perspective but shes exactly the same way about them. She loves everyone and I mean everyone and its just very unrealistic and the average viewer cant really empathize or relate to her. For example why does she love Tiara so much? Besides the fact that theyre blood related and shes a cute little sister or whatever. Like I said above these are such surface level reasons its like the characters are connected by a superficial thread.
Okay how about the plot? What plot? Is there a plot that I missed? Okay sure theres a knight subplot and then a human trafficking subplot but other than that what actually happens in this story? This lack of plot seems to suggest that theres an emphasis on character interactions but again I see that all as surface level and not at all well thought out. Sure there was some conflict but the MC is selfadmittedly overpowered and you really cant feel much tension at all. In this story any minor issues have a peaceful resolution and there are no real consequences to any actions taken. Thats not bad in and of itself but it isnt earned either.
And my last point. Why does every isekaitype story feel the need to have an incestuous/pedophilic connotation? Like what the fuck was that in the last episode? Am I reading into it too much am I just expecting the worst out of this genre did my eyes fucking deceive me? Why did that knight want to carry Pride as a kid RIGHT after Arthur suggested that all the knights are in love with her? Why did that dude whos name I forgot Im sorry tell her that she could have WAY more fun with him than those kids? Like thats suggestive as hell and also extremely inappropriate to say to a thirteen year old you sick fuck.
Anyway it kind of ruined this already milquetoast show for me. Yes the animation was good. It was well scored. Thats about all the credit I can give it.
