how do we relationship? is a slice of life romance story about two girls both lesbians trying to navigate their transition to adulthood. the main characters start off as 18 year olds and we watch them deal with whatever life throws at them now that they are in college.
the story explores issues as first love dealing with rejection being ashamed of ones past jealousy. i would also warn young readers that this story contains 18+ elements as characters are mature and well hormonal.
i actually cannot be more happy about this story. as a lesbian i feel like this is the rep i have been waiting for this entire time. it is so realistic and wellwritten that i cannot help but see bits of my younger and sometimes even current self in both miwa and saeko as well as their other sapphic friends.
i was initially a bit skeptical about the story because it seemed so heavily romance based with toxicity sliding in so i was afraid it would romanticize or ignore the bad aspect of the relationship as most romance mangas tend to do to be honest. but this is absolutely not the case here the author knows what they are doing. they made their characters seem so completely human that everything progresses naturally issues get addressed sometimes not in the healthiest way as life happens.
two main characters and everyone else but not the point right now behave like actual humans as in their actions may be irrational too feelingsbased too immature. they live and they learn they are allowed to make mistakes and grow from them. when the narrative portrays conflicts between them it does not side with only one of them as being absolutely right. the author understands that there are both sides of the story to every personal conflict and tries their best to portay the feelings and the motivations of each girl. even if you sympathise with one of them more on certain issues you will understand the other one as well.
there are also some minor details that i like about this manga like characters hair colours and hair styles gradually changing unlike how in some mangas theyre stuck with the same hair throughout the entire thing how we see on a few panels that saeko has a cracked phone. these little things just help the realistic immersion even more.
overall id recommend this to every wlw so you can see the good rep of our experiences it is definitely a big love letter to us and our love for women and each of us growing up and maturing.
the actual best comingofage story ive read so far. no notes. i hope it continues its run for a long time because i have been enjoying the journey so far a lot.
