Once again I am making a review after seeing the 15th anniversary showing of the movie in theaters and this time in 4D. Ill try to keep the thoughts on that short since they probably wont show it again in 4D unfortunately. But long story short if you can absolutely see this one in 4D but seeing Childhoods End in 4D is take or leave. It really helps build the rampup of the series if you watch the second movie in 4D but not the first I think. Anyway since the first movie did so well and the new scenes were very well received shocking I know there were many more scenes added to the movie recap of the second half of the anime. Once again theres some stuff thats completely skipped over like Yoko as a teacher helping her students which had the amazing shot of them sitting in the tree but some stuff that was skipped over was remade into a different scene like with Rossiu about to kill himself now taking place on the ArcGurren instead of Adai village. Theres a general difference in impact but the scene ends with the same effect it needed. The movie even changes the fates of some characters since some of the more... lesser known Team DaiGurren members survive and then have their own Tengen Toppa forms to fight the AntiSpiral with. That scene and the entire fight with the antispiral being one of the most insane scenes in anime and cinema that Ive ever seen. As a fan of the series seeing that after seeing the anime first its very cathartic. Seeing it in 4D was even better with the seats shaking and puffs of air and whatnot making it even more hype. Theres just something about a fight so ridiculous happening devolve down to dudes just punching each other in the face. In the premovie interview with the staff even they said We couldnt make something like this today. And I believe it. Something like this couldnt have the same sort of intense childlike excitement of seeing two mechs combine to form a bigger and bigger mech all done with some of the best animation and music in the industry being hungry for more the next week anticipating what could possibly happen next with a group of people just as passionate as you sharing your theories or memes online before the next episode came out to blow your theoretical or literal balls off or cry your eyes out. Speaking of music there were about three tracks made exclusively for this movie and all of them are phenomenal especially... inhales ...My XXX is the Best in the Universe. That title alone is pure adrenaline. My thoughts are essentially the same as the first movie but its definitely more of a spectacle here. Watch the anime then see the movies when you get the chance hopefully once the release the 4K cuts online somehow so you can see the excellent job of the dub to keep the continuity. The movie was clearly made for theater viewing so seeing it on such a massive screen in of itself was the perfect if not definitive way of seeing the movie. REDLINE you watch as loud as possible TTGL you see on the biggest screen possible.
