EVANGELION:3.0 46h is the backstory for Midori Kitakami that pink hair girl from the Wunder crew that tries to shoot Shinji in 3.0+1.0. The decison for the choice of such character is questionable but its basically an excuse to see the 3rd Impact in the Rebuilds. For those confused the Near 3rd Impact and the 3rd Impact are two seperate events that happen months from each other. The Near 3rd Impact is what we watch Shinji trigger by the end of 2.0 which is stopped by Kaworu in the post credit scene of the same movie. The 3rd Impact happens off screen between 2.0 and 3.0 Kaworu is the first to mention it to Shinji in 3.0 and we only get glimpses of it in 3.0+1.0. But now about the content in 46h in this OVA of just around 10 min we get Pink Hair Girl working out some pull ups until she gets a flashback of the events around the 3rd Impact after hearing one of her colleagues complaining about dying while doing pull ups. We start off the flashback with Failures of Infinity those red Eva 01s sprouting from the ground with cross shape lights above them and so we get confirmation of what happened to those who got caught by the 3rd Impact. Afterwards we get a view from space of the Impact and we see that it doesnt spread in a evenly pattern. 220https://www.onlinestation.net/wpcontent/uploads/2023/01/Eva03.jpg And so we watch a young Midori and its explain to us that her family turned red and just dissapeared that she is just wandering aimlessly trying to escape a now slower spreading after effect on the Impact. Eventually she climbs up a mountain and comes to face with a red hellscape shortly afterwards a Failure emerges behind her. She looks frightened at it and soon after a singing Mari and Asuka appear in a Eva transport aircraft. Mari tells Asuka that there is no one to save around here to which Asuka responds with something along the lines of there is trust me bro and so a Eva 02 missing a arm is launched. We get a sluggish fight between 02 and the Failure in which at some point Midori backed into the edge of a cliff falls but ends up grabbing a branch and holds on to it like the pull up bar at the beginning. The girl gets some goo on her hair and thats the reason for her pink hair complains that whats happening is completely unfair Asuka ends up winning the fight while partially cosplaying 2B and grabs Midori just before she falls to the ground. Asuka then is like do you also wanna punch that idiot Shinji that caused this mess? And Midori thinks to herself when i grow up i will join Wille to punch that guy. We go back to present time she tells the guy that he is not dying helps him out and gives him at kick for good measure. The techical aspects we good for the most part i liked a shot of a flock of bird fleeing the Impact and a desperade young girl fleeing below. The soundtrack used is nothing new just olds tracks from the rebuilds but Shiro Sagisu the composer for Eva did a excellent job with the soundtrack of entire franchise. As such its perfectly fine by me. So where are the problems? I am just gonna focus on the script which post 2.0 as been terrible for the most part. Well for starters we got to believe that the Midori saw her family go puff but that was far enough to outrun the 3rd Impact even if it doesnt follow an uniformed spreading pattern it is still a contrived thing to happen. But that aint the major problem. Why did Willie which is presumably fighting Nerv at this point sending their 2 only Eva pilots with a damaged Eva to search for survivors? Arent they trying to prevent a complete extinction of Humanity? Then why do such a strategically retarded thing? I think that anyone can see that loossing any of such assests is a fatal loss. Well maybe Misato didnt order Mari and Asuka to do such a thing they simply did it of there own volition. If thats the case the only thing that changes is what character characterization is damaged. Speaking of which why is Asuka so adamant in blaming Shinji for the 3rd Impact? We know the doors of Gulf were closed when Kaworu throw the spear at Eva 01 that the 3rd Impact happen afterwards and involved Eva Mark 06. To be fair its more of a problem of the rebuilds post 2.0. so its kind of to be expected. Anyway allegedly Hideaki Anno was not directly involved in this one although he has stated previosly that to opening up the franchise for other creators is his intention well if this is what we are supost to get i prefer nothing at all. But Evangelion is a billion dollar franchise so... we all know that its a question of when not if.
