Waking up from a nightmare is one of the best feelings Ive ever felt in my life. My heart may be racing and my clothes may be drenched in sweat. No matter how surprised or afraid I am. The first thought my mind races off to is the assurance that Im awake. The realization that what I saw was just a dream. The knowledge that the world I woke up to is much better than the creation my dreams conjured up. However what if the world you wake up to is even worse than the nightmares you see? If thats the case. In what eye would you see the world around you? During childhood a childs whole world revolves around their parents. As a kid whose care do you seek out for the first time? To whom would you tell about the things that made you happy? Whose arms would you seek peace when tears give way? A parent plays a huge role in being there for us. Theyre also the ones we first look up to. Most of our basic understanding of the world and people are gained through our parents. Both consciously and subconsciously our guardians influence a huge part of our lives. Mokuzu ever since she was a child was tormented by both her parents. Especially her father. Because of a childhood of parental neglect and abuse. She doesnt even know how to read anothers emotions. This however does not mean shes impartial to them. When Nagisa dragged her up the mountain to her pets grave. Her reluctance to push forward was evidence for it. It was her moral compass that was different to that of a normal person. Take the rabbit massacre for example. Though Im somewhat confused about her incentives. Its clear she didnt feel guilty for it. Or else she wouldnt go about putting one of its heads in her bag. She may have very well considered it a trophy. The weird thing is. I cant help but think Mokuzus incentive was somewhat related to his fathers incentive to kill Pochi. He killed the things he cared about. So its possible for Mokuzu to have an interest in killing something her friend Nagisa holds dear as well. Theres also the possibility of the whole thing being done aimed at Kamajima. Mozuku knew Nagisa had feelings for him. And because Nagisa ignored her the day before the massacre. As an act of jealousy. She took it out on the helpless rabbits. If you close your eyes for a couple of minutes under direct sunlight and open them up again. Youd definitely be blinded by the Suns intensity for a couple of seconds until your retina adjust. After a couple of minutes you might even forget how bright it was. Similar to our eyes. Our brains try their best to normalise everything. When were put in an unknown and foreign situation. We try our best to adapt. To get along. For Mokuzu a life of torment is the kind of environment shes normalized herself to. With a heartless parent to top it all off. To fill the void in her heart the lack of a loving parent had created. As an alternative she looked to make a friend. A friend whod be willing to fall head over heels for her. In the end. For her Nagisa was the chosen one. Two companions who bonded through one commonality. Tragedy.
